Take risks, it’s worth it!

Mariam from Georgia, Summer Semester 2023

Hello, world!

I am Mariam, an MBA student from Tbilisi, Georgia. I took a leap of faith before coming to Germany, deciding to change the course of my life. Despite having recently graduated with a Bachelor's in Law, I made the bold choice to switch to a Business Administration Degree for my master's, and it turned out to be a remarkable decision that led me to Remagen.

I have always had a passion for traveling and exploring parts of the world before arriving at RheinAhrCampus. However, I have never experienced such amazing German culture as in Remagen. The amazing nature, Rhein River, and friendly people have exceeded all of my dreams. I would say I felt a little lost with my place in life, as most people who are recent graduates do, but coming here has been like a second breath in life.

Because of the amazing location of Remagen, I have been allowed to travel to countries like Belgium, Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, and Luxembourg. I fell in love with Germany’s railway system. It gives you the ability to get anywhere in the country and with that, I have visited many cities such as Munster, Cologne, Koblenz, Dusseldorf, Dortmund, Mainz, and many more.

This semester helped me a lot to adapt to the international environment. I have met people from at least 10 different countries, with whom I made great friends, shared my opinions, and best of all – got to try their food! I met people from completely different ideas, backgrounds, and views about life from mine, which helped me grow and showed me that there are lots of different ways to see the world and find happiness.

I also found my new love in Germany – biking. Although initially, living further away from the campus seemed like a downside, it turned out to be the highlight of my day. Cycling along the Rhine every day makes me feel on top of the world. I have also connected with locals who frequent similar biking trails, engaging in pleasant conversations by the riverside, which has further helped me practice my German.

To anyone afraid to pause their life at home for an exchange semester, I dare you to do it! It is an experience that surpasses expectations and is truly worth it. Successful completion of your exchange program will for sure leave you as a better person than when you first arrived.

 Liebe grüße,

 Mariam
