A Life Changing Experience

Hallo zusammen! My name is Elimkhan, and I am from Azerbaijan. As my semester at RheinAhrCampus comes to an end, I am very happy that I used the great opportunity offered at my home university to come to Remagen, to challenge and change myself.

Before I came to Germany, I was worried about this new challenge because I was just 18 years old and I had never had any international experience in my life. But I was sure that I wanted to do something great, unforgettable and very important for my future during my student life. And I came to Germany!

All my worries were gone from the first day in Germany because I saw that Germans are actually very friendly, helpful and warm when I was at Frankfurt Airport and didn’t know how to go to Remagen. Every German that I asked for help, were willing to help and they were explaining everything very carefully that I could understand which train to take, at what time, from which platform.

And I made it to Remagen. My first impression was “this is where I want to live in” because I love the architecture of German houses and the city is small but very cute. Although it is small I could do a lot of fun things like going to Baracke (student pub) to meet new people, having BBQ with friends, going to the swimming pool or just going to the side of the Rhein and enjoying the good weather. Also, Remagen is close to big cities like Koblenz, Bonn and Cologne and the good thing is that you can take public transport to and inside these cities for free with your student card.

Of course, I was also studying and doing my internship in Sprachen/Internationales at RheinAhrCampus. That was the place where I improved and changed a lot both professionally and personally. During the internship, I had the chance to work with people from different countries in a group and that was an amazing experience for me. I am very happy that I already have international work experience at this age which is very important to my future career. I learned a lot during my classes as well. I got a TOEFL certificate without having to pay the exam fees in TOEFL preparation class; I was Vice President in International Business Simulations class; I went to France to analyze France FMCG market in International Marketing class and so on.

Coming to Germany and not traveling in Europe is not imaginable for me, because Germany is in the heart of Europe and travelling is very cheap here. I have travelled to France and the Netherlands so far, but I still have time to travel more and I will do so.

In the end, I would like to say that my semester in Germany was amazing because of the people that helped me, worked with me, travelled with me and so on. Now I have lifetime friends from Germany, India, Portugal, Canada, Georgia, the USA and more. Thanks to everyone for contributing to my unforgettable experience. I believe that this is not the end of my time in Germany because I will come back maybe to live in Germany, maybe to study or maybe to just travel. But I will definitely come back.
