Experiencing the German culture!
Minji from South Korea, Summer Semester 2019
I finished my study as an exchange student at Koblenz University RheinAhrCampus. At first, I chose Germany because I am Korean and I thought Germany has a big difference with my home country. So I wanted to experience the German culture. Also, before leaving my home country, I found that the RheinAhrCampus is a smaller and quiet place compared to my home university. When I was studying in my Korea home university, I was always in the middle of the big city. I thought I need more free time in nature so I really enjoy this campus and environment of this campus. Rhine River is close to this city, Remagen. In this University, I took different kinds of courses like economic, Management, and marketing. All these various courses were in English, so this was a great chance for me to extend my English skills. In RheinAhrCampus, there were about 15 exchange students. It’s a quite good number. So, this also helped me to easily hang out with exchange students. During this semester, I made lots of foreign friends. Also, they made lots of happy experience and they helped me a lot. Living in a shared apartment let me know how to hang out and adjust to other cultures with foreign roommates. These kinds of new experiences taught me to acknowledge and recognized other cultures. During this semester, I was recording my experience in Germany with my own blog. I wrote about my first day at school, my cooking with new ingredients, and about traveling. This makes me remind my past experience more vividly. Also, I could use these records when I go back to my home country to prove my experience in Germany. So, I recommend these kinds of records to future exchange students. I am sure that all of these memories let me develop to be a brave person. I could not buy this lesson but I could get this lesson only through direct experience. For now, at the end of my exchange semester, I am satisfied with my time in this RheinAhrCampus.
