Study where tradition and contemporary life come together
Study where tradition and contemporary life come together
In Westerwald, the mild Rhineland climate meets the cool air from the hills. Students are welcomed by green meadows, bubbling streams and lush forests: the beautiful diversity of nature at its best. The Kannenbäckerland cultural landscape lies in the south-western Westerwald.
Over the centuries, a unique tradition of ceramics has developed in the Kannenbäckerland area –from handicrafts and fine arts to high-tech ceramics. There are numerous potteries, ceramics studios and workshops to visit. Höhr-Grenzhausen is home to the BFZK, an internationally renowned training and research centre for ceramics – the only one of its kind in Europe. Our university is one of eight institutions working in the fields of research and development, education, start-ups, art, design and museum conservation.
The fact that (almost) everything here revolves around ceramics is no coincidence: the region has the richest clay deposits in Europe. There is plenty more to discover in the area with many beautiful places to visit and an extensive programme of cultural and other events.
What makes Kannenbäckerland so special is the unique mix of young ceramics and glass students and experienced master craftsmen, and their openness to sharing their enthusiasm for ceramics and glass with visitors.
