RESEARCH FOR A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE: INNOVATION AT THE UAS KOBLENZ
Koblenz University of Applied Sciences is known for its broadly diversified research landscape - innovative, socially relevant and dynamic. In our six departments, application-oriented projects are carried out together with or on behalf of companies, municipalities, social institutions, clubs or associations. But basic and knowledge-oriented research also has its place under the umbrella of Koblenz University of Applied Sciences.
We promote interdisciplinary cooperation and encourage our researchers to think beyond the boundaries of their own fields. Through the collaboration of scientists* and junior scientists* from the various disciplines, we are able to find innovative solutions to complex problems and implement diverse subject areas in competence centers, research institutes and groups. In recent years, our researchers* have identified three interdisciplinary research areas in which they successfully combine their expertise and intensive cooperation has developed:
Analytical Imaging,
Education, Social Policy and Social Work in the Context of Demographic Change, and
Data Driven Systems
These focus areas have met the HRK criteria and have been included in the research map.
The research landscape at Koblenz University is and will remain diverse and dynamic. Thus, the research foci will have to develop further in the medium term in terms of content and personnel, new foci will emerge, and others may lose importance. This dynamic is necessary in order to take up new research areas in the future and to be attractive for companies, students and future professors. Two areas of potential already exist: Within the topic complex "Water Environment Climate", practical research questions are identified and worked on cooperatively in cooperation with municipal and state authorities, engineering offices or regional water suppliers. Another area of potential is the topic complex "Sensor technology for the bioeconomy". In order to conduct research in this area using camera-based remote sensing, a cooperation between Koblenz University of Applied Sciences and the Fraunhofer Institute for High Frequency Physics and Radar Technology (FHR) in Bonn-Wachtberg is planned.
Research and development projects are often scientifically flanked by doctorates, which make an important contribution to anchoring the project topic in science and to promoting young scientists. Currently, about 80 cooperative PhD students are supervised by professors of Koblenz University. The Graduate Center of the Koblenz University of Applied Sciences supports the doctoral candidates in all questions and concerns related to the doctorate, organizes a professional and interdisciplinary qualification program, promotes networking among each other and offers funding for doctoral candidates.
Koblenz University of Applied Sciences has always been committed to good scientific practice. The new version of the Regulations for Safeguarding Good Scientific Practice of Koblenz University of Applied Sciences of 14.07.2022 is in line with the regulations of the DFG memorandum "Safeguarding Good Scientific Practice" and has been implemented in a legally binding manner (reviewed and approved by the Senate of Koblenz University of Applied Sciences). In accordance with these regulations, Koblenz University of Applied Sciences aims to ensure professional research data management by establishing sustainable and quality-assured research data infrastructures.
