Cancer Systems Biology
Cancer is a complex and life threatening disease. We work with biologists and doctors and develop mathematical and statistical models, which help to better understand cancer and to gain new knowledge for diagnostics and therapy.
Cellular homeostasis
Homeostasis is the fascinating ability of biological systems to maintain stable intracellular conditions under a wide range of different external conditions. We are developing mathematical models to study the underlying control mechanisms of homeostatic regulation.
Model uncertainty and model inference
Mathematical models are always simplifications of reality. Model improvement is still a labour intensive process. We are developing algorithms for data driven detection of gross modelling errors, which automatically suggest the most promising model modifications.
